who?
Mexico-based singer/songwriter/producer Mauricio Castillo makes dreamy, R&B-influenced indie pop under the name Ice Cream Boy. While essentially a solo project, Ice Cream Boy features Jazz instrumentalist for live presentations. Ice Cream Boy’s songs are stripped down and dreamlike, often inspired by pop and R&B. The project made its debut in 2019 with Chocolate, Vanilla & Tequila. Subsequent albums such as 2020’s Changes incorporated more electronics and experimentation, and nowdays are even more synthezised Castillo’s sounds.
Castillo began recording by himself and releasing Ice Cream Boy songs through online distributors.

Perhaps I am stretching things a tad with the whole ‘new music’ concept considering this album was released in Feb 2020. However, the ‘Wake In June style flirtation with Post-punk atmospherics, meets glorious jangled riffs aesthetic’, is just too good to ignore based of mere technicalities like time !
